Eliot Wolf points out one of the biggest free agency keys for Patriots

New England Patriots executive director of player personnel Eliot Wolf reflected on the upcoming free agency cycle and what the emergence of rookie quarterback Drake Maye could mean for it.

He broke things down to FOX Sports’ Henry McKenna.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Wolf said. “Player X from another team is like, ‘Yeah, rookie quarterback, great. You know, we’ve all seen rookie quarterbacks come in and struggle, so that doesn’t really mean a lot now.’ Drake’s actually playing well. It’s on film for everyone to see.”

The Patriots had a difficult time landing big-time free agents last offseason, with the missed pursuit of wide receiver Calvin Ridley being a major storyline for the organization.

Now, they have a rookie quarterback in Maye to hopefully give them a better shot at attracting key free agents this time around.

Wolf’s biggest task will be surrounding Maye with the talent needed to succeed. They have the assets to kick-start a legitimate turnaround in New England with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft and the most salary cap space in the league heading into free agency.
