Texas A&M defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson will serve as the Aggies’ interim head coach after the program parted ways with head coach Jimbo Fisher, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Robinson became an assistant under Fisher’s coaching staff in 2018. In six seasons at Texas A&M, he has worked with the defensive line, the defensive unit and the Aggies’ run game coordinator.
Statistically, Texas A&M’s defense has been one of the best in the country this season. Through the Aggies first 10 games, Texas A&M ranked No. 12 in total defense (290.9 yards allowed per game), No. 1 in sacks (39) and tackles for loss (88), No. 9 in rushing yards allowed per carry (3.05) and No. 31 in scoring defense (20.4) per game.
Ahead of the Aggies’ 22 campaign, Robinson recruited four of the program’s eight five-star players that include defensive linemen Walter Nolen, Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, LT Overton and Anthony Lucas.
Prior to Robinson’s success at Texas A&M, he made stops at Penn State, Temple and Baylor under then head coach Matt Rhule prior to joining the Aggies.
Texas A&M (6-4) fired Fisher after the Aggies’ 51-10 victory against Mississippi State on Saturday. As the program seeks to find its next head coach, Robinson will seek to lead the Aggies to victories in their final two regular season games against Abilene Christian on Saturday and against LSU on Nov. 25.
