Shortly after the New York Giants hired general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, they received calls from team legend Eli Manning.
Manning not only reached out to introduce himself and offer congratulations, but to offer help in the event Schoen or Daboll needed it.
“I told them if they need anything from me in any way, nothing is off limits. I’m happy to help,” Manning told the New York Post. “I look forward to getting to know both of them better and seeing if I can be of service to them and help them get back on track and win more games. I’m all for that.”
Manning did not say if Schoen or Daboll took him up on the offer, but the two-time Super Bowl MVP still holds a separate role with the organization nonetheless.
Manning also told the Post that despite not being involved in the hiring process, he doesn’t believe the Giants did anything nefarious or made any decisions based on race.
“I was not involved in any of that process in any way, so I don’t know the details,” Manning said. “I know the Giants organization. I know they do everything possible to give everybody a fair chance. They don’t care, minority or not, they are looking for the best possible candidate. They are going to do everything properly to look for that perfect candidate. So, I don’t think there was any wrongdoing there.”
Manning’s comments, of course, come on the heels of a Brian Flores-filed lawsuit alleging the Giants put him through a “sham” interview and have racist hiring practices.
The Giants have denied Flores’ accusations.
