Both Peyton and Eli Manning know what it’s like to grow up in the shadow of a famous father. Each struggled at times to break free from the legacy of College Football Hall of Fame quarterback Archie Manning, a legend at Ole Miss who went on to have a lengthy NFL career.
However, being on the other end of the equation is a new—and occasionally humbling—experience for two of the most distinguished siblings in the history of sports.
On Saturday, a viral photograph made the rounds comparing Peyton and Eli’s physiques with that of their nephew Arch, now a quarterback at Texas. Where Arch appeared ripped on the eve of his freshman season, the second generation of Mannings looked less so in two separate pictures from the beach.
Ever self-deprecating, Eli took the razzing in stride, tweeting, “They just got me at a bad angle!”

With ESPN’s acclaimed ManningCast set to enter its third season and the Longhorns just under two months from their season opener against Rice on Sept. 2, the Mannings will figure prominently in the news this fall. Time will tell whether that is good or bad news for Eli.
