Buddy the Elf causing mayhem, bingeing sugar and teaching people the value of Christmas. It's a modern Christmas classic that somehow seems to be mocking the conventions of Christmas movies while also being a prime example of one.
You know the story - a baby at an orphanage crawls into Santa's sack and is accidentally taken back to the north pole where he is raised as an elf but grows up to be Will Ferrell. The hopelessly naïve and Christmas loving 6ft elf goes to New York to find his crotchety birth father (James Caan) and hilarity ensues.
It went on to earn more than $220 million at the box office in 2003 and cemented Will Ferrell as a top Hollywood star and director Jon Favreau as a safe pair of hands who went on to direct Iron Man and a bunch of Star Wars projects.
