HIGHLIGHTS OF ELEVATE 2042 20-YEAR LEGACY PLAN FOR BRISBANE 2032 OLYMPICS AND BEYOND UNVEILED BY THE QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT:
- The Elevate 2042 strategy was compiled after a year of community consultation with more than 14,000 suggestions
- It's vision statement is: "By 2042, we will live in an inclusive, sustainable and connected society, with more opportunities in life for everyone"
Four key areas are targeted in the plan:
1. SPORT, HEALTH AND INCLUSION
Aims include:
- Communities will be more inclusive, active and healthy
- Strong pathways for talented athletes wherever they live
- Focus on making sport more affordable and the availability of transport and facilities
- Reigniting the volunteer network
- Projects include: YouFor2032, Australia's largest ever talent search program, the establisment of a Paralympic Centre of Excellence at the University of Queensland
2. CONNECTING PEOPLE AND PLACES
Aims include:
- More connected public transport
- Accelerating urban housing renewal
- Creating spaces where communities can share experiences
- Creating a connected and walkable Games with more mobility options for pedestrians, bikes and scooters
- Projects include: turning the Northshore Athletes Village into a housing project
3. BETTER FUTURE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Aims include:
- Speeding up journey to net zero emissions
- Reducing waste and creating sustainable growth in communities
- Restoring healthy lands and waterways
- Building green infrastructure
- Sustainable infrastructure for all new or significantly upgraded venues
- Projects include: Queensland Energy & Jobs Plan
4. ECONOMY OF THE FUTURE
Aims include:
- Building resilient businesses and supply chains that can grow and enter new markets
- Building sport, biomedical, agriculture, resources, tourism and creative industries
- Projects include: Q2032 Procurement Strategy and the Cultural Program and Festival Preparation
Two foundations of the plan:
1. RESPECTING, ADVANCING AND CELEBRATING FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE
Aims include:
- More opportunities in sport, business, arts, culture, tourism and life
- Integrating Indigenous culture in planning, design and delivery of the Games
- Embedding Indigenous cultures in communities
- Projects include: First Nations Cultural Centre, creating a First Nations tourism roadmap
2. ADVANCING ACCESSIBILITY AND EMPOWERING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY
Aims include:
- People with disability participating fully in the community
- People with a disability having a voice on housing, transport, education, employment and sport
- Accessible, inclusive sports infrastructure and events
- Projects include: Queensland's Disability Plan 2022-2027, Australia's Disability Strategy 2021-2031
