Electricity expert shows TikTok fans €3.99 tumble dryer item that could reduce your energy bill

An electricity expert has taken to TikTok to share a brilliant tumble dryer hack that could lead to big savings.

Energy bills continue to skyrocket and most people are looking for ways to help them save money heading into the winter. Electricity expert Colm Griffin from purchase.ie has shared a simple change you can make to save to energy, RSVP Live reports.

The tumble dryer uses a lot of electricity, but many of us can't live without it. However, Mr Griffin revealed that adding one small thing to a cycle can cut costs - dryer balls.

Taking to TikTok, he said: "Tumble dryers typically use about a euro an hour when they're on. But these are dryer balls, and you put them in with your laundry. Instead of the clothes getting stuck together, this helps to separate the clothes and distribute them around the tumble dryer better.

"This means the clothes are able to dry faster. They can reduce drying time by up to 20%. So for every hour you use your tumble dryer, you could be saving up to 20c an hour."

Tumble dryer balls are very effective in helping drying your laundry become more cheaper, energy-efficient and eco-friendly. These benefits include;

  • Reducing drying time
  • Shortened drying time saves energy, making laundry less costly
  • Eco-friendly due to lower energy use
  • Reduced static and lint build up, as well as a reduction in creases and wrinkles
  • No more need for artificial chemicals
  • Re-usable, saving you money on fabric softeners

Depending on your tumble dryer brand, the average cost of running one for a year ranges from €77 to €232. This means if you save up to 20% by using dryer balls, you could cut anywhere from €15 to €46 from your annual bill.

You can buy a 2 pack of dryer balls in Home store + More for just €3.99 and they last up to 500 washes.
