The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has apologized to a customer after reviewing his statements and finding out he's been unknowingly paying someone else's utility bill for years.
Ken Wilson of Vacaville, California, noticed his bill had gone up even after he did everything he could to reduce his power usage.
"I've been trying to conserve electricity and lower my costs because it was getting really expensive," Wilson said. "I kept going outside to check my meter... and I couldn't believe it."
Wilson has been living in the same apartment complex since 2006, which led him to believe this issue had been going on since he moved in 18 years ago.
"I thought there was a leak or someone was stealing my electricity or the meter was faulty because something wasn't right," Wilson said.
When the electric company sent someone to investigate Wilson's unit, number 90, they found it was indeed linked to another unit, number 91.
PG&E said it was doing everything in their power to address and correct the issue, but informed Wilson the error would remain unchanged until at least his next bill.
