At the last election in 2019 the UUP recorded their highest vote share for any area so the party will be hoping to maintain and build on that.

Unionist councillors are in the overall majority and that is reflected in the DUP's position as the largest party on council in the last term with 11 seats and the UUP's 10.

However, Alliance made gains and secured three seats in the council for the first time last time out at the polls, while the SDLP hold 6 seats.

Sinn Féin also hold 10 seats on the council so the margins are tight in this area.

The remaining one seat was held by an Independent candidate.

The council has the largest electorate outside of the Belfast City Council area.
