Eldon Square and Metrocentre confirm whether shops and restaurants will be open on Queen's funeral

Shops and restaurants inside Eldon Square and the Metrocentre are set to close on Monday for the Queen's funeral.

Eldon Square has confirmed that a number of stores and eateries inside the shopping centre will remain shut for the Bank Holiday on September 19 so that staff can watch the service with their loved ones.

However, the centre itself will be open to the public on the day, with reduced hours, from 10am to 6pm. Eldon Square bosses are also advising shoppers that some entrances to the centre may be closed.

Customers are being urged to check with individual brands before they visit to confirm whether they will be open.

An Eldon Square spokeswoman said: "On Monday, September 19 Eldon Square will be observing Bank Holiday opening hours from 10am to 6pm, however, many retailers and restaurants will be closed for the day. Some of our entrances to the centre may also be closed.

"Please check with individual brands before you visit.”

Meanwhile, the Metrocentre said that all of its shops will be closed on Monday and said that just 15 restaurants are planning to open. The shopping centre said it will be opening at 12pm to enable diners to use the restaurants that are serving customers on the day.

A Metrocentre spokeswoman said: "The entire Metrocentre community are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and would like to take this moment to thank our late Sovereign for her lifelong leadership and devotion to the nation.

“On Monday, September 19 the Metrocentre will be open from noon to support a limited number of restaurants who wish to trade the Bank Holiday. The centre will be partially open operating reduced hours with limited access.

"We urge anyone intending to visit to check with the specific restaurant as details are subject to change at short notice. We will also be providing the option for Metrocentre staff to observe the funeral via the screen at Exhibition Square.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family at this time."
