An elderly woman has been mugged in broad daylight on Kilmarnock's busiest street.
The 69-year-old was on King Street in the town centre on Monday at around 10.40am when a man stole her handbag.
Police say that the woman was not injured but has been left shaken by the incident.
The suspect is described as a white male, who was wearing blue jeans, a dark top and dark trainers.
Inspector Iain Farmer, of Ayrshire Police Division, said: “Thankfully there were no injuries as a result of this incident but the woman has been left shaken.
“We are currently reviewing CCTV within the local area in an effort to identify the male responsible.
“I have also briefed officers at The Cross, Kilmarnock today [Tuesday, May 24] and we are carrying out additional patrols in the local area.
“I would ask anyone who noticed someone matching this description, or acting suspiciously, to get in contact with police.
“If you were in the area at the time of the incident and have any information that could assist with our enquiries, please get in touch with officers.
“I would also like to thank members of the public who helped the victim and have provided valuable information to officers.”
