An elderly woman was taken to hospital with 'hip and leg injuries' after being knocked over in Whitley Bay.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Whitley Road at around 2pm on Saturday. A 90-year-old woman had been hit by a car and had sustained a suspected broken leg and hip, police have confirmed.
The ambulance service dispatched a specialist paramedic, rapid response team, clinical team leader, and a double ambulance. Paramedics then transported the woman to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington for further treatment.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 2pm on Saturday (May 7), police received a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on Whitley Road, Whitley Bay.
"It was reported that a 90-year-old woman had been hit by a car sustaining a suspected broken leg and hip.”
A spokeswoman from the North East Ambulance Service said: "We called 13.54 on Saturday to road traffic collision between a car and a pedestrian on Whitley Road, Whitley Bay.
"We dispatched a specialist paramedic, rapid response team, clinical team leader, and a double ambulance. A female patient was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital."
