Officers in Midlothian are appealing to the public for information after an elderly man and woman were attacked.
The incident is understood to have occurred at around 00:05am on Buccleuch Street in Dalkeith and residents say that they could still see a police presence throughout the day in the area on Saturday, January 14.
The attack is said to have taken place at a bus stop opposite the library.

A 62-year-old man had to be taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after suffering a severe injury to his head and a 60-year-old woman is also believed to have been assaulted but was not injured during the ordeal.
Detective Sergeant Marion Anderson of Police Scotland said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“We believe there were a number of people in the area at the time, including on a bus, and anyone who saw what happened is asked to get in touch with officers.
“Likewise anyone with private CCTV footage or who was driving in the area and have dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation, please make contact via 101, quoting incident number 0023 of Saturday, 14 January, 2023, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
