Elderly man killed in blaze at care home near Regent’s Park

An elderly man died and another is in hospital after a blaze at a care home near Regent’s Park in central London.

Emergency services scrambled to Esther Randall Court in Little Albany Street at 7.25am on Thursday.

A number of residents were evacuated from the address which has 35 self-contained one-bed flats.

Medics took two men, both aged, 83, to hospital, the Metropolitan Police said.

One later died and his next of kin have been informed. The other male remains in a non life-threatening condition.

Scotland Yard said: “Police were called at 07.25am on Thursday, January 5 to reports of a fire at Little Albany Street, NW1.

“Officers, London Fire Brigade, London’s Air Ambulance and London Ambulance Service attended.

“The address is a multi-occupancy care facility. A number of residents were evacuated.

“Two men, both aged, 83, were taken to hospital.

“One of the men later died. His next of kin have been informed.

“The other man remains in hospital; his condition is not life-threatening or life-changing.

“The circumstances, following police investigation, are not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the coroner.

“There were no arrests.”
