Elderly man hospitalised with 'serious' injuries after gang burglary in Celbridge

A 72-year-old has been hospitalised after a gang of men broke into a shed in his house in Adrass Lower, Celbridge last night.

The burglary happened at around 9:30pm and the owner of the house disturbed the gang while they were trying to take property from the shed.

He was then assaulted before the men left the scene. A number of them left on foot while one left the scene on a scrambler bike which was stolen from the house.

The elderly man was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown. His condition is described as "serious but stable".

One teenage boy was arrested by gardai in a follow-up search and is currently being held at Leixlip garda station.

Gardaí are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to this incident to come forward.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Any person who may have noticed any unusual activity in the Adrass Lower area last night is asked to make contact with investigating Gardaí.

"Any road users who were travelling in Adrass Lower between 9p.m. and 10p.m. and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leixlip Garda Station on 01 666 7800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. Investigations ongoing."
