Elderly man hospitalised after being struck by car at Lanarkshire supermarket car park

A elderly man was hospitalised yesterday evening after being struck by a car in a Tesco car park.

The man was hit at 4.10pm in the car park of Tesco on Stonelaw Road, Rutherglen.

Bystanders reported that police were in attendance yesterday at the supermarket.

Police Scotland confirmed that both the driver of the car and the man were taken to hospital.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told Lanarkshire Live : “Around 4.10 pm on Tuesday (March 8), police received a report of an elderly man having been struck by a car within Tesco car park at Stonelaw Road, Rutherglen.

“Both the male driver of the car and the pedestrian were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital as a precautionary measure.”
