Elderly man dies in Dumbarton flat fire as police probe gets underway

A 72-year-old man has died following a fire in Dumbarton.

At around 7.45pm on Thursday, police were called to a fire at a flat in Round Riding Road. The man was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.

Police have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.

Argyll and West Dunbartonshire Police Division took to Facebook to confirm news of the tragedy.

A statement from the force read: "A 72-year-old man has died following a fire in Dumbarton on Thursday, June 2.

"At around 7.45pm on Thursday evening, police were called to a fire at a flat in Round Riding Road. A 72-year-old man was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.
