Elderly man dies after wheelchair collides with car

An elderly man in a wheelchair has died after colliding with a car in north Queensland.

Police say the crash occurred when the man was travelling in a motorised wheelchair along a street in Townsville on Monday and collided with a Holden Monaro.

The 85-year-old from Aitkenvale was taken to hospital but later died.

The 28-year-old Holden driver was not injured and is assisting police.

Anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident has been urged to contact police.
