Elden Ring PC players report severe 'stuttering' issues

PC players are reportedly suffering 'stuttering' issues shortly after Elden Ring's release - and it's not their hardware's fault.

The issue, which doesn't seem to affect Xbox or PlayStation, sees players experience drastically reduced frame rate and performance.

Currently, Elden Ring has 'Mixed' reviews on Steam with the majority of negative reviews complaining about performance issues.

One reviewer wrote: "Unfortunately I have to give everyone a big warning before buying the game.

"The game is not well optimised at least for the PC, and while the frame rate in enclosed areas is very stable, it will constantly stutter in open areas, from which the fame will have many, since as the trailer show, you will even be able to ride on this big world map.

"Since Elden Ring is a game where you have to dodge/react to the opponent's attacks in under a second, this makes Bossfights frustrating beyond belief and honestly kinda unplayable at least in my eyes."

It seems that the issue is down to Elden Ring's software, rather than a player's PC specs.

Another reviewer wrote: "Struggling to maintain 60FPS/1080p on a 3080, massive stuttering and drops to the mid 20s, crashed 4 times within 2 hours of fame time, 60 FPS cap, and no ultrawide support.

"On top of all that, Easy-Anti cheat will prevent any unofficial fixes or mods for this game, even when playing offline. This is unacceptable."

Elden Ring's application of Easy Anti-Cheat has been heavily criticised and has even caused issues for some players attempting to download the game.

FromSoftware appears to be aware of this and have announced they will investigate it.

In a twitter post, FromSoftware wrote: "In the PC version of ELDEN RING, the installation of Easy Anti-Cheat fails and the game could not be launched under certain circumstances.

"We are currently investigating the cause of the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our customers."

Stuttering issues have been a cause for concern for Elden Ring players after it was widely reported on following the network test.

It is not yet clear why FromSoftware didn't fix the issue before launch since it was most likely reported to them during the network test.

While the developer is yet to publicly address stuttering issues, it is likely already aware of the problem and may bring out a patch fix in the near future.
