An El Paso man has been charged with murder for allegedly strangling his wife and dumping her body across the border in a park in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, after discovering she was having an affair.

Concretely, Jorge Mares Raygoza was arrested on March 28 in connection with the death of Coral Llamas Sifuentes, 45, whose body was found near the Mirador Camino Real park, about 23 miles from the Ysleta Port of Entry.

According to court documents obtained by KTSM, investigators with the El Paso Police Department's Crimes Against Persons unit were alerted by the FBI after Raygoza identified the body as his wife following a news release. Raygoza initially claimed he was unaware of the news article until March 25, when family members informed him. However, surveillance footage at the port of entry showed him crossing into Ciudad Juárez on March 21.

Raygoza, who lived and worked in New Mexico but frequently visited El Paso on weekends, told investigators he came to the city for a job interview to be closer to his family.

Court documents showed Sifuentes had been having an affair for about two years and had rented a hotel room with another man when Raygoza began video calling her. Sifuentes was reportedly shocked by the call, as Raygoza had never used the video call feature before.

The suspect told investigators that on March 18 he tracked his wife's location and learned that her vehicle was at a hotel. He then asked a friend of his to drive to the hotel to take a picture of Sifuentes' vehicle.

Court records show Raygoza continued tracking her movements and told Sifuentes he knew about the affair and wanted to discuss their future when he returned to El Paso.

Legal filings confirmed Raygoza arrived to El Paso on March 21 and that he and Sifuentes "engaged in sexual intercourse" before he confronted her about the affair. Authorities say Sifuentes did not want to talk about the affair, which enraged Raygoza.

Raygoza told investigators he strangled Sifuentes to death with both his hands for about 30 minutes before placing her body in the backseat of her car. Court records reveal that Raygoza left Sifuentes' body in the driveway throughout the day and, upon returning from his job interview, he proceeded to drive the vehicle across the Ysleta Port of Entry into Ciudad Juárez, where he destroyed Sifuentes' phone and smart watch.

According to video surveillance at the border crossing, Sifuentes' vehicle appeared to have been driven through desert terrain. Court records reveal that Raygoza later confessed to have driven to a park where he humped Sifuentes' body and then proceeded to run errands around the area before driving back to the U.S.

Raygoza is being detained at the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $1,250,000 bond.
