The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will play Wednesday evening in the College Basketball Invitational national title game. For the third time in the CBI tournament, the Colonels came through in extended play.
EKU won its first two games of the College Basketball Invitational in overtime. That didn’t satisfy apparently, because it took two overtime periods Tuesday night before Eastern defeated Southern Utah to clinch a spot in the championship game.
Isaiah Cozart scored a career-high 31 points, including two clinching free throws, in EKU’s 108-106 victory. The Colonels shot 51 percent from the field and turned the ball over just nine times while forcing Southern Utah into 22 turnovers.
The title game Wednesday night pits Eastern against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The game is set for 5:00.
