The Eastern Kentucky University Board of Regents has approved an evaluation and assessment report for President David McFaddin. The new survey instrument is part of the strategic plan. The document includes strengths and opportunities in areas like inclusion, knowledge, and innovation. Faculty Regent Dr. Jason Marion delivered the report Thursday. He said McFaddin’s strengths are unique to him.
“It was apparent that his ability to connect with students, being a student-friendly president, understanding first-generation students, understanding how EKU acts as a school of opportunity and connecting that with the university mission,” said Marion.
Marion said areas of opportunities include working to make the campus more diverse in faculty and staff and retaining the most competent employees. He added compensation is another issue, but not unique to EKU.
McFaddin said it’s healthy to hear back from the campus community and he said while a lot has been done, there’s still work to do. He realizes employee compensation is a key issue. It's one that must be balanced with making Eastern an affordable institution for students.
“When you try to balance that with having the resources to try to keep pace with eight or nine or ten percent inflation, it’s a challenge. So, I think trying to crack that code and trying to get that balance and have that sustainable compensation system,” said McFaddin.
The eastern Kentucky native has headed the Richmond school for almost three years.
