Harry Kane and Tottenham’s frontline failed to fire in Frankfurt
(Picture: Getty Images)Antonio Conte surprisingly named an unchanged Tottenham team after Saturday’s loss to Arsenal for Tuesday’s trip to Eintracht Frankfurt, sticking to what he knows after insisting his way was best in the build-up to the game.
Given the passive manner of their performance at the Emirates, that seemed a risky strategy, but the same team who sat back against Arsenal sprung back into life inside Deutsche Bank Park.
An entertaining game in a hostile atmosphere saw Spurs create a number of gilt edge chances, as well as concede the kind of opportunities Conte will be raging out into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Richarlison all went close in a 0-0 Champions League draw that provided much more than the scoreline would suggest.
The home side too will be wondering how they did not breach Hugo Lloris’ goal. Sebastian Rode, Agnsar Knauff and Jesper Lindstrøm were equally guility of squandering opportunities as the action bypassed a non-existent midfield and played out largely around each team’s 18-yard box.
A good point for Spurs in the grand scheme of things but an off-night for their frontline will be a concern.
