Lane closures on a busy stretch of the M74 are in place in Lanarkshire for eight weeks.
Essential woodland management involving the removal of dangerous and diseased trees started yesterday (November 28) and will cause disruption until January 27.
It sees lanes shut on both the north and southbound carriageways, and hard shoulder between Junction 6 and Junction 8, affecting routes including Hamilton and Larkhall.
The removal work will take place between the hours of 7am and 5pm each day.
Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking the maintenance scheme which has a value of £339,000.
It forms part of the Tree and Woodland Maintenance Management Strategy which aims to take essential steps to combat the effects of Ash Dieback along the road network.
It's said to benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety of the carriageway and reducing the risk that diseased trees pose to road users.
The roadworks are estimated to take around eight weeks to complete, and access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.
Motorists are advised that all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
