Eight people were killed and dozens injured after a bus taking migrant workers to a farm in Florida crashed on Tuesday.
The incident took place in west Marion county, according to local highway patrol. Overall, 53 people were on the bus at the time of the crash. All were described as migrant workers who were being taken to a watermelon farm. The owner of the company was reportedly at the bus at the time of the crash. All were taken to a local hospital.
Of the injured, at least eight were in critical condition and the additional 37 faced non-life-threatening scenarios.
Westbound lanes on highway 40 will be closed for most of the day, the local sheriff's office said on its Facebook page. Highway patrol is on site investigating the incident and the National Transportation Safety Board is monitoring the situation.
