A resident living in a street in Bristol dug up what looked like a lump of metal while gardening this morning (Tuesday) - and ended up with the bomb squad undertaking a fingertip search of their garden.
The resident, who has not been named, inadvertently unearthed a World War Two hand grenade - and then found another close by, causing police to cordon off the whole of the road in Henleaze for much of the day.
The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived and found there was, in fact, eight grenades and three used rounds of ammunition in the garden of the house in Henleaze.

The drama began at around 11am when the resident called police saying they thought they might have unearthed something potentially dangerous in the garden. Local officers arrived to check out the scene and took a safety-first approach and called in the Army bomb squad.
They arrived just before 3pm and initially confirmed that the two objects unearthed were potentially dangerous grenades.
The Army EOD team then searched the rest of the garden area and discovered six more grenades, along with three used rounds of ammunition. The road remained closed until late afternoon as the army team began the task of carefully extracting the objects from the garden, before declaring the all-clear again.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police confirmed: "We were called at 11am today (Tuesday 6 September) to Henleaze Avenue, in Bristol, following reports of two suspected grenades being dug up from a garden.
"The road was closed to allow the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to gain access. Upon their arrival, officers carried out a search of the garden and discovered eight grenades and three used rounds of ammunition. They will dispose of the items safely," she added.
