Egypt's foreign minister has called on Israel and Hamas to swiftly implement a Gaza ceasefire plan following international pressure. The ceasefire agreement, announced by President Joe Biden and other mediators, is crucial in ending the 15-month conflict. Despite initial resistance from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a statement on Friday indicated progress towards the deal's approval by Israel's security cabinet.

The deal, facilitated by American, Qatari, and Egyptian mediators, is set to be voted on and potentially go into effect on Sunday. Egypt, a key mediator with a peace agreement with Israel, is spearheading talks in the newly built Administrative Capital. The foreign minister emphasized the importance of prompt implementation without delays.

Continued negotiations in Cairo involving the U.S., Qatar, and Egypt will focus on executing the deal. An 'operation room' in the Egyptian capital will oversee the process. Discussions are underway for the reopening of the Rafah crossing, with an Israeli delegation heading to Cairo for talks.

Egypt advocates for empowering the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority to lead postwar Gaza, sidelining Hamas. The goal is to establish an independent Palestinian state encompassing the West Bank and Gaza. The deal aims to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza through the Rafah border crossing, addressing critical shortages.

Efforts are underway to reopen the crossing to allow 600 trucks daily to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation. Egypt welcomes the return of EU civilian observers to assist in the process. The EU's potential presence at the crossing is seen as crucial.

Amid the conflict, Egypt has faced economic challenges, with disruptions in shipping traffic through the Suez Canal due to Houthi rebel attacks in Yemen. The ongoing tensions have cost Egypt significant revenue losses, impacting its economy. The presence of millions of refugees and migrants, including Palestinians from Gaza, has added to the country's burdens.

Egypt remains committed to facilitating the ceasefire agreement and supporting efforts to stabilize the region. The focus is on ensuring the well-being of civilians in Gaza and advancing long-term solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
