Egypt Seeks to Strengthen Position as Sustainable Energy Hub

Egypt is seeking to become a regional hub for renewable energy, as part of its 2030 sustainable development strategy, especially in the field of green hydrogen.

In April, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Cairo is accelerating steps to adopt proposals aimed at attracting more foreign investments in the field of green hydrogen production.

It recently signed several agreements and memoranda of understanding with international companies to start producing green hydrogen in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

Meanwhile, the country has been preparing to host the first conference on sustainable energy with the participation of 15 world countries.

On Tuesday, the Higher Organizing Committee of the Sixth Egypt International Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (EGYPS 2023) held its first meeting, chaired by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla.

Participants discussed the ongoing preparations for EGYPS 2023, scheduled for Cairo on February 13-15, 2023.

Molla said in a press statement that the conference is the most important event of its kind in the field of energy in the North African and Mediterranean region.

EGYPS 2023 will focus on keeping pace with the current global changes affecting the energy sector, topped by environmental sustainability.

The agenda includes discussions on hydrogen, management and carbon reduction in industry, digitization, and social responsibility.

The participants will also tackle investment, financing, energy equality, resource sustainability, and securing supplies to address current global challenges, Molla added.

They will also focus on Africa’s role in securing energy resources for the world.

“The conference provides great opportunities to boost Egypt's petroleum cooperation with various partners and promote the successes of the oil and gas industry and investment opportunities in the country.”

More than 32,000 people are expected to participate in the upcoming event, during which 290 speakers, including officials, experts, and entrepreneurs, will present their interventions through 70 specialized discussion panels.

More than 500 exhibitors from 15 countries will participate in its accompanying exhibition, and 11 awards will be granted in the fields of sustainability and energy equality.
