Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks Saturday in Beijing with several world leaders on the sidelines of the luncheon hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping in honor of the heads of state and government participating in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games.

Sisi met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and with Qatari Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Also, the President held talks with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

During a meeting in Abu Dhabi last month, Sisi and Sheikh Mohamed stressed they would continue to work together to confront foreign meddling in the region and attempts to sow division among its countries and cooperate to confront the risks and challenges facing the Arab region, especially terrorism and the countries supporting it.

Sisi highlighted Egypt's principles related to resolving regional crises based on resisting foreign intervention, combatting violence and terrorism, and protecting national institutions to restore security and stability in countries experiencing crises.

He had met with Qatar’s Emir in Baghdad last August, the first meeting since they agreed in January 2020 to end the Gulf rift.

Egypt and Qatar exchanged the appointment of ambassadors in June and August respectively in a sign of improved relations.

Egypt’s ambassador to Doha Amr al-Sherbiny handed over his credentials to Sheikh Tamim last November.
