Egypt Denies Existence Of Tunnels Along Gaza Border

Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip

Egypt has refuted claims made by Israel regarding the presence of tunnels along its border with Gaza, dismissing them as false. According to state-affiliated Al-Qahera TV, an unnamed senior official stated that the Israeli reports are untrue and are indicative of the crisis within the Israeli government.

The Egyptian source further mentioned that the alleged misinformation from Tel Aviv is an attempt to divert attention from Israel's military setbacks and political turmoil, particularly in the Palestinian Rafah region.

Another senior source emphasized that there has been no communication with Israel regarding the purported tunnels along the Egypt-Gaza border. The deployment of Israeli troops in the Philadelphi Corridor without mutual agreement would violate the peace treaty between the two nations, as stated by an Egyptian official in February.

Contrary to Egypt's stance, the Israeli military has declared that they have achieved 'operational control' over the Philadelphi Corridor. Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari disclosed that an operation is underway to neutralize 20 tunnels in the area. Additionally, an Israeli official revealed that some of these tunnels extend into Egypt, with the information reportedly shared with the Egyptian authorities.
