Egypt has affirmed its commitment to work with African countries to support regional integration in the continent.

This came during its participation in the 21st Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.

Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Hamdi Sanad Loza cited Egypt’s establishment of the Sahel-Sahara Counter-Terrorism Center.

He underlined in a speech the importance of mobilizing efforts of the member states to activate the CEN-SAD’s role in issues related to the continent, said a foreign ministry statement.

On the other hand, Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio hailed Egypt’s leading role in supporting peace and stability efforts in Africa and its leading contribution to advancing joint African action under the umbrella of the African Union.

The FM further commended Cairo’s historic support for the African countries and peoples during and in the aftermath of their liberation from foreign colonialism.

Antonio made his remarks during an expanded meeting on Thursday with the Institute of Diplomatic Studies and Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding.

According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Antonio spoke about his country’s experience in building peace after the conflict, as well as efforts to maintain security and stability in the southern African region, the African Great Lakes region and the continent in general.

He said Angola looks forward to develop cooperation with the Center and benefit from its various experiences and activities in the field of peacekeeping and peacebuilding.
