Egan Bernal has won the 2019 Tour de France after completing Sunday’s final stage in Paris.
Bernal becomes the first Colombian to win cycling’s biggest prize after completing this evening's processional stage, crossing the finishing line on Champs-Elysees hand-in-hand with Ineos teammate and 2018 champion Geraint Thomas, who finished second.
At 22, Bernal becomes the youngest post-World War II winner of the Tour.
Bernal all but sealed his title in Saturday’s penultimate stage with competition tradition dictating the race leader will not be challenged on the final day.
He took the yellow jersey from Julian Alaphilippe on Friday's stage 19 in the Alps,
"Colombia is on the verge of winning its first Tour, We already had won the Giro d'Italia and La Vuelta a Espana, but the Tour was missing and it's a great honour to think that I'm the one achieving this,” Bernal said on Saturday.
Bernal and his teammates shared champagne as they completed the 128km between Rambouillet and the Champs Elysees.
