Eerie new video shows inside 'post-apocalyptic' Lisnagelvin Leisure Centre in Derry

The abandoned Lisnagelvin Leisure Centre has been captured in a creepy new video that has appeared online.

The footage, taken by Derry Hub Productions' Nathan Edgar, captures inside the facility much-loved by those across the city for its famous wave machine swimming pool.

The centre was finally closed to the public in 2015 and more recently there have been ongoing discussions about redeveloping the site.

The video has been viewed 42,000 times on Facebook, with a further 35,000 views coming from TikTok.

Speaking to MyDerry , videographer Nathan Edgar said he was "shocking" to see the site left in such disrepair. He said: "Like a lot of people in the city, I’ve many fond memories of Lisnagelvin.

"I think it played a massive part in almost everyone’s childhood here locally.

"At the same time as it was shocking, it was fascinating to see the pool in its derelict but in a way, still intact state and I think this sparked a lot of memories for people in the city.

"I think the general response from the public showed a disappointment at the way the leisure centre has been left lying since its closure, and general criticism of the currently available facilities in the city."

The video cause a stir online with over 700 comments, with many calling for the site to be reopened as a leisure centre.

"Should have redeveloped it," one wrote. " It's not too late. Derry badly needs a leisure pool the likes of which can be found in Lisburn, Bangor or Belfast."

A second said: "Aww this was the best swimming pool ever, spent my childhood there every Wednesday night patiently awaiting the waves."

A third wrote: "I was in Lisnagelvin [Leisure Centre] for the last wave session, that place should never have closed should have been renovated."
