Parramatta have temporarily withdrawn NRLW centre Kate Fallon from playing duty, citing safety and welfare concerns.

Fallon became embroiled in drama on the eve of the NRLW season on Wednesday, when it emerged she had been charged with assault after an incident with a neighbour in a Sydney apartment complex last week.

The 20-year-old was named on an extended bench for the Eels' NRLW season opener against Brisbane on Saturday, but was expected to play in reserve grade in Sydney on Sunday before being withdrawn.

"Following discussions with the player, NRL and NSWRL, we have made a decision to withdraw her from the game this weekend due to concerns for her safety and welfare," Parramatta said in a statement.

"The club will continue to provide our player and her family with support."

Parramatta's decision to withdraw Fallon from the game comes as the NRL weighs up whether to stand her down under the league's no-fault policy.

It is understood Parramatta do not believe she should be stood down, with the charge carrying a maximum sentence of five years.

Under NRL rules, the no-fault stand-down policy is only immediately activated when a charge carries an 11-year sentence. All other decisions are discretionary.

"The NRL and Parramatta Eels have agreed the player will be stood down from matches this weekend," said the NRL in a statement.

"Due to extenuating circumstances, the NRL will provide additional consideration to the player before determining whether further action is required."

Fallon is due to face Waverley Local Court on August 14.
