Eels must rise to tough NAS battle: Arthur

Parramatta coach Brad Arthur has no issue with Melbourne forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona being allowed to play against the Eels on Thursday despite the Storm forward's growing list of on-field indiscretions.

Asofa-Solomona can count himself lucky to be featuring in round 25 after he received a $3000 fine for dropping his elbow into the face of Roosters prodigy Joseph Suaalii last Friday.

Earlier in the season the Melbourne big man escaped any sanction for a similar act that left Warriors hooker Wayde Egan with chipped teeth.

The Eels and Storm, who meet on Thursday for a shoot-out for a top-four spot, have history in the recent past over Melbourne's willingness to overstep the mark.

In a similar incident last season, Eels back-rower Ryan Matterson copped an elbow to the face from Storm forward Felise Kaufusi and missed five weeks of NRL action with a concussion.

Arthur, though, dismissed the idea Asofa-Solomona should be watching the game from the stands at CommBank Stadium.

"He plays tough and he's a tough player," Arthur said on Tuesday.

"Our job isn't to make the rules and I'm sure Craig (Bellamy) will be picking him to play.

"As I say, I don't make the rules, the NRL do and he's clear to play.

"We are preparing to play against a very tough player who pushes you hard and he's very aggressive and we need to make sure we are on our game for him."

Arthur will be hoping his side can end their regular season with a bang, emphasising the game against fourth-placed Melbourne was a finals game in all but name.

The equation is simple for the fifth-placed Eels and Storm. A win will guarantee a spot in the top four with the other side pitted into a sudden-death game in week one of the finals.

"We've been presented with an opportunity and we need to look to put a run of wins together," Arthur said.

"I think both teams will have the same attitude around it.

"History states - whether you believe it or not - that you've got a better opportunity if you finish in the top four. I'm sure both teams will be going for it pretty heavily.

"If someone said at the start of the year the last round would be at CommBank against one of the heavyweights to play for the top four, what more do we want?

"It's up to us. They'll be just as desperate as us for those two points."

Arthur has named an unchanged side to the one which got the job done against Brisbane last week.
