Edwina Currie left Susanna Reid doing a double take as she appeared on Good Morning Britain. The former MP and Minister for Health appeared live on Monday's edition of the ITV news programme via video link from her home in the Peak District.
She appeared in a debate over the cost of living crisis as Susanna and Martin Lewis brought a special 'Money Monday' episode of GMB to viewers which will continue throughout September. However, it is the first time Martin and Edwina have come face to face since their very public clash.
Last week, Money Saving Expert founder Martin invited both Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak - the two candidates to be the next Conservative Prime Minister - on his ITV show. But Edwina waded into the row, as she urged Lewis to "stop pretending that governments can do everything".
She said: "I would like you, Martin, to stop using words like 'catastrophe', and instead advise people take sensible steps to reduce the effect on their families and businesses. And stop pretending that governments can do everything. They can’t."
But Martin responded: "It is a catastrophe Edwina! While there are steps people can take to help themselves (I explain them in todays email) Energy bills by Jan will cost on avg over half the full state pension & bigger proportion of basic UC. No sensible steps cover that!"
And their debate over the use of the word continued on GMB today. "You cannot ignore the rise in bills. That's what the catastrophe is, it's not my language," Martin argued but Edwina still argued against the use of language.
But prior to that, Susanna was left baffled when she noticed what was lurking in the background of Edwina's home. "Just before we carry on, do you have a cardboard cut-out of Boris Johnson in your home?" the presenter asked as Martin sniggered.
"Sorry, are you at home with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of the Prime Minister?" Susanna added. Joking that he was "on his way to Balmoral", Edwina then revealed she had acquired the cut-out for a "fundraising party."
The former I 'm a Celebrity star explained: "We had a fundraising party a month or two ago and he insisted on attending." Martin then added of the departing Tory leader: "At least he's staying there so he's got a role somewhere. Delighted to see it."
But Martin soon appeared to be in despair with the show's guest as the conversation moved on to radiator insulation. The 50-year-old held his head in his hands live on the show as Edwina shared her tips to keeping warm this winter.
"Here's one of my suggestions, something that's dirt cheap and Martin knows about this," she said before holding up a piece of insulation foil, telling people to put it behind their radiators. She told the hosts that people her age have lived in homes 'without central heating' but 'are dependent on it now' as she claimed her trick makes such a difference.
But Good Morning Britain viewers were flocking to social media to slam Edwina's decision to appear on the programme alongside the cut-out and for her advice. @lookeyhere4 tweeted: "Lovely start to the week being patronised by Edwina Curry."
