Edu 'wins battle' to keep £50million rated Arsenal star amid transfer exit links

Arsenal technical director Edu has 'won the battle' to keep star defender Gabriel Magalhaes at the Emirates this summer.

Gabriel was heavily linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus as the Italian outfit looked for replacements for Matthijs de Ligt and Giorgio Chiellini. The Brazilian joined the Gunners in an £18million move from Lille in 2020 and has been a stalwart at the back for Mikel Arteta's side ever since.

Arsenal remain adamant that Gabriel will not be leaving the Emirates this summer despite interest growing in the 24-year-old from top teams across Europe. Arsenal could demand a significant transfer fee to part ways with Gabriel, with the Brazilian under contract with the Gunners until 2025.

Juventus have seemingly given up in their attempts to prize Gabriel away from the Emirates after signing Gleison Bremer in a £40million deal from Torino. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed on the Here We Go podcast that plenty of other clubs are still interested in the Arsenal centre-back, though the Gunners have no intention to let him go.

"Many, many clubs in for Gabriel Magalhaes," Romano said. "He's not going to be an easy one because Arsenal doesn't have the intention to sell him.

"In case some top club will arrive for Gabriel, Pau Torres would be an option for Arsenal."

Torres was also linked with a move to Juventus this summer, with Arsenal's north London rivals Spurs also interested in signing the Villarreal star. football.london understands Mikel Arteta wants to add a left-sided defender to his squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, having missed out on new Manchester United signing Lisandro Martinez.

football.london also understands the Gunners have agreed to a £32million deal to sign Manchester City's Oleksandr Zinchenko, with the 25-year-old expected to sign a four-year deal at the Emirates. Zinchenko's versatility allows him the option to be played at left-back or central midfield, but even with the return of William Saliba from his successful loan spell with Marseille, it looks like Arsenal want to add another top defensive player to their squad.

For now, Gabriel looks set to stay in north London and will remain a key player for Arteta moving into next season.
