Work behind-the-scenes at Arsenal is underway for what is expected to be a busy January transfer window as technical director Edu and Mikel Arteta look to add reinforcements to the current crop of players. The Gunners are top of the Premier League after 14 games and face a tough Manchester City side in winning their first title since 2004.
Arsenal's first half of the season means they find themselves in their first title fight since 2016. However, unlike City, Arteta's squad face the serious threat of dropping off due to the lack of squad depth. football.london understands a new midfielder and wide player are priorities ahead of the winter party but Gabriel Jesus' injury could change the club's strategy.
The forward has hit the ground running in north London since his £45million move from Manchester City in the summer and despite not finding the back of the net since the start of October, has been instrumental in the Gunners' impressive start to the season.

The severity of Jesus' injury is currently up in the air. football.london originally reported that the 25-year-old would only miss three to four weeks of action, but claims in Brazil have claimed he is facing much longer out than expected.
It remains unclear whether Arsenal will bring in a short-term replacement to Jesus in January, with the groundwork already conducted on Shakhtar Donetsk's Mykhaylo Mudryk and PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo heavily linked.
With Premier League football at a pause for the World Cup, Edu and Arteta have been pictured in Los Angeles alongside club director Josh Kroenke. Edu's wife, Paula Gaspar, posted a series of clips of them in attendance to watch the LA Rams take on the Seattle Seahawks at the Stan Kroenke-owned SoFi Stadium.
Arteta is set to join his non-World Cup stars in Dubai for the warm weather training camp this week while Edu is likely to be using his stay in the US to conduct plans with Kroenke ahead of the transfer window. History tells us that the Gunners won't spend heavily in the winter window, however, Arsenal's league position is likely to change that stance.
