Edu set to secure Arsenal major summer transfer windfall as £29m decision confirmed by agent

Arsenal could be in line to secure a major summer windfall with Lucas Torriera looking like he will seal a permanent switch to Fiorentina.

The Uruguayan midfielder joined the Serie A outfit on a season-long loan deal earlier this season and he has since impressed.

He has made 23 appearances in all competitions for La Viola, with 21 of those being starts. The 26-year-old has scored twice in that time, with his displays in the heart of midfield earning plenty of praise.

His performances have left his adoptive employers certainly satisfied and it is suggested that they have now decided to activate the permanent option inserted into the deal.

According to Mundo Deportivo, they wish to retain him and are set to pay €15m (£12.5m) to secure his services on a permanent deal.

A move of that valuation would of course see Arsenal lose out having reportedly paid Sampdoria £26m for Torreira back in 2018 but it would give them vital funds to spend ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Whilst there appears to be some way to go before a deal will be agreed, the Uruguayan’s agent Pablo Bentancur has confirmed this belief that his client will remain at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Torreira is not the only player that Fiorentina are expecting to sign on a permanent basis though.

It is also suggested that they also intend to open negotiations with Real Madrid over the permanent signing of Spanish full-back Alvaro Odriozola.

A fee of €20m (£16.6m) would be thought to be enough to tempt the Spanish giants into selling and when combined with any deal for Torreira would represent a significant £29m from the Serie A club.

However, they have ironically been assisted in their efforts by a former Arsenal transfer target - Dusan Vlahovic - with the Serbian securing Fiorentina a large sum with his January move to Juventus.
