Edu's two transfer priorities 'revealed' as Arsenal prepare for summer window

Arsenal's summer transfer priority is to sign Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus and tie Eddie Nketiah down to a fresh new contract according to recent reports.

The Gunners allowed prolific frontman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona back in January whilst both Nketiah and fellow forward Alexandre Lacazette approach the final four weeks of their respective contracts at the Emirates Stadium. It looked like the Englishman would be leaving on a free transfer at the end of next month until a number of reports claimed last week that the player has changed his mind on leaving and is expected to sign a new deal in the coming days.

Now, transfer guru David Ornstein has confirmed that the north London club's priority is to tie the Hale End academy graduate down to a new contract whilst City centre-forward Jesus also remains a priority target for technical director Edu. Writing for The Athletic, Ornstein said: "I'm away but as far as I know Jesus and Nketiah are the current priority/plan."

football.london understands that the aforementioned Edu has been in contact with Jesus' representatives over the last few months as the Brazilian transfer chief looks to bolster Mikel Arteta's frontline this summer. Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has also made it no secret of his desire to play alongside his countryman at club level, admitting that the former Palmeiras man would be the perfect addition to the north Londoners' squad.

“We joke around in the dressing room, but there’s nothing certain," Gabriel told a press conference this week. "Of course, he’s a quality player and if he goes to Arsenal, he would help us a lot.”
