Edu's role 'revealed' as Mikel Arteta gets unexpected triple boost ahead of Arsenal vs Tottenham

Arsenal's next Premier League game could very well be a huge one against Tottenham Hotspur in the first North London Derby of the new season.

As a mark of respect following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, this weekend's fixtures in the top-flight of English football have been postponed which means the Gunners' scheduled meeting with Everton at the Emirates Stadium will be rearranged for a later date.

In addition, as of writing, there has not been any guidance given over whether next Sunday's away clash with Brentford will be postponed or not as the game is set to take place on the same weekend as Queen Elizabeth II's funeral - which is likely to take place on Monday.

Regarding next weekend's games, the DCMS (The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) have told football.london: "Our guidance will stay the same. There's no obligation to cancel as far as far as the government is concerned. But it's ultimately up to the Premier League and EFL to make those decisions."

Meanwhile the Metropolitan Police have stated to football.london: "Whether matches go ahead is a matter for the football authorities. If fixtures do take place, the Met will work with the relevant partners and ensure that appropriate policing plans are in place."

And despite the fact that next Thursday's Europa League tie with PSV Eindhoven is set to go ahead, the north London outfit are facing a scenario where they won't be in Premier League action again until the beginning of October due to how this season's fixtures have been scheduled.

If the Brentford fixture gets called off, what follows is a two-week hiatus for the international break which means the Premier League will resume on October 1 with the Gunners taking on Tottenham in the 12.30 kick-off.

With that said, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been handed an unexpected triple boost ahead of the North London Derby in that Brazil boss Tite has opted against selecting Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli for upcoming friendlies against Ghana and Tunisia.

Now, these omissions aren't necessarily bad news for the Gunners trio ahead of this winter's World Cup in Qatar as reports in Brazil claim Tite wants to take a closer look at those on the periphery of the squad before finalising his 26-man party for the tournament that gets underway in November.

For a number of Arsenal fans, this decision has gone down extremely well. In fact, it has been pointed out on Reddit that Tite and Brazil Sporting Director Juninho were recently special guests at the Emirates Stadium as they were in the company of compatriot Edu Gaspar.

On that day the Gunners' technical director uploaded a picture on to Instagram with a post that read: "Big pleasure to have the Brazil National Team coach Tite and the Sport Director Juninho at our home." And this has led to some supporters praising Edu as they believe he played a role in getting the three Gabriel's extra rest.

emilesmithbro said: "Nice and rested for the NLD let’s go", u/R1d4z said: "Edu pulling the strings and getting the three Gabriel's extra rest!", meanwhile on Twitter, @tataalomae said: "Edu asked the Brazil coach to leave the Arsenal players out. Good favour" and @ks_funds echoed the same sentiment: "Edu has done it again. Told the Brazil head coach to leave out his players so they don’t pick up an injury before the World Cup. My technical director."
