Edu's genius £45m Arsenal transfer call proves to be secret weapon in Mikel Arteta's upturn

Gabriel Jesus has been sensational since making the summer switch to Arsenal from Manchester City in the transfer window. The Gunners were screaming out for a top-quality striker at the back end of last season and it seems they have found that in the Brazilian.

In the first three games of the Premier League this season, according to Squawka, Jesus had the highest expected goals (xG) in the division, alongside the most goals and assists, the most touches in the opposition box, and the most take-ons completed. The Brazilian had been completely dominant in his opening matches as an Arsenal player.

His goals for the Gunners have been crucial this season. But, the main reason for the importance of his goals is because once he gets on the scoresheet it has proven to be a fact that Arsenal will win the match

Only two players have scored in 50 different Premier Leagues without losing a single match. One of these players is Gabriel Jesus, whose goal against Brentford meant that he has now reached the 50 game mark being able to score in a game without losing. James Milner is the only player to have a better record than the Brazilian having scored 54 goals without losing a game.

Jesus has had an excellent start to the season under Mikel Arteta, scoring two goals in his first home game for the Gunners against Leicester. And it is because of his explosive start that he had been named Arsenal’s player of the month for August. His dominant first month has led to him scoring four goals in total since the beginning of the season and his has also provided three assists, which puts him joint third in the league behind Bukayo Saka and Kevin De Bruyne.

The 25-year-old also leads the league this season for having the most touches in the opposition box. The Brazilian international has so far taken 66 touches.

Behind him is Mohammed Salah with 55 touches in the box. Jesus’ intent to stay in around the box has been a major benefit for Arsenal, as they have been creating more chances than previously seen during Arteta’s tenure as boss.

It is clear that Jesus will become one of Arsenal’s most iconic strikers if he continues on this trajectory. His incredible statistics also highlight that he is on his way to becoming a Premier League great as he ranks fifth in Premier League history for goal involvement per minute without a penalty. Jesus contributes to a goal every 107.6 minutes via Orbinho.

The 25-year-old has played a pivotal role in keeping Arsenal at the top league during the first couple months of the season. And as the statistics shows, if he continues to get on the scoresheet then the Gunners will continue picking up points in this campaign.
