Edu's Gabriel Jesus transfer decision proven right as Arsenal lead Liverpool and Chelsea

Arsenal's transfer business over the summer has been quick and effective, with a settled squad adding five new faces before pre-season had even finished. Over £100million has been spent improving Mikel Arteta's options in the market, looking to go one step further than the side's fifth-placed finish last season.

So far, that has worked perfectly, with two wins from their opening two matches making them one of only two sides to have a 100 percent win record at this stage of the campaign - alongside Manchester City. The latest of the pair of victories was a 4-2 triumph over Leicester City, where the attacking play took centre stage.

Discussing the performance after the game, Arteta told the media: "Really happy. It was a big performance. A good football match from both sides, I think Leicester had their moments as well, and they did a lot of good things in the game. Overall delighted because we got the result we wanted."

While the attacking build-up play was devastating at times for the opposition last campaign, the Gunners often found themselves struggling to put the ball in the back of the net. With the exit of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the next high-profile move for a striker had to be the right one.

It appears as though, in these early stages, Arsenal have managed to do just that in the form of Gabriel Jesus. Sporting director Edu is said to have put in months of work to land the Brazilian from Manchester City this summer, making sure he was the perfect fit for the squad and playing style.

The 25-year-old has silenced many doubters at this stage, who were unsure of his ability to play as a centre-forward and his ability to finish was front and centre with his opening goal against the Foxes where he lobbed goalkeeper Danny Ward with a magnificent attempt. Jesus plays a big part in the Gunners leading the way in xG this season, with the xG Philosophy tweeting that they are top of chances created with 4.56.

That is ahead of the likes of Liverpool in second with 4.44 and London rivals Chelsea in third with 3.99. With the Gunners scoring six goals from those chances, it could suggest two things.

The overperformance suggests that results, or goals at the very least, could drop off at some point should the trend continue. The other thing it could suggest is elite finishing, with the best players and teams in the world often outperforming the average due to their skill level.

Arteta will certainly be hoping it is the latter, with his new recruit up front proving he could have the ability to outperform his metrics this campaign.
