Edu's flight to Spain clarified as Arsenal face Manchester United transfer battle

There is now just over two weeks before the summer transfer window shuts and Arsenal have made five first-team signings thus far.

Mikel Arteta's side have spent in excess of £110 million to bring in former Manchester City duo Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus, as well as highly-rated midfielder Fabio Vieira, experienced goalkeeper Matt Turner and promising young winger Marquinhos. Technical director Edu is still working on deals as the Brazilian transfer chief looks to offload fringe players before looking to add additional reinforcements before next month's deadline.

Now, football.london has taken a look at some of the hottest transfer rumours from the last 24 hours involving the Gunners.

Pino update

Arsenal fans went into meltdown when Edu was reportedly spotted boarding a flight to Spain on Sunday morning, with some theorising that the former Invincibles midfielder was on his way to wrap up a deal for Villarreal starlet Yeremi Pino. However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that this is not the case.

Writing for Caught Offside, Romano said: “Many clubs have been following Yeremi Pino for months, he is a top player of the future that at least three Premier League clubs have been monitoring for some time. No proposals have been made yet to Villarreal, who would like more than €50m for their young star; it will not be an easy negotiation.

“As for the rumours about Arsenal – Edu was not travelling to Spain to meet Villarreal, also because Pino’s agents are based in the UK (Stellar Group).”

Caicedo talks

Another player that has recently been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium is Brighton star Moises Caicedo. According to the Daily Mirror, via the Express, Arsenal are keen on the talented central midfielder, who arrived at the Amex Stadium last year.

However, the Gunners will face plenty of competition for his signature, with the likes of Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Juventus all said to be interested as well.

Aouar twist

Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar has been linked with a move to Arsenal off and on over the last three years and it now appears that the Frenchman may finally be arriving at the Premier League this summer. However, it is newly-promoted Nottingham Forest that look like they will get their hands on the creative playmaker, with Sky Sports Italy, reporting that Forest are closing in on a deal for the 24-year-old.

Aouar has also been linked with a move to La Liga this summer in the form of Real Betis but a move failed to materialise.
