Edu provides Arsenal transfer update after being put on the spot during pre-season tour

Arsenal chief Edu claims the club are "working on" more arrivals this summer.

The Gunners' technical director was quizzed during their pre-season tour and clearly isn't resting on his laurels despite completing some big deals already. Mikel Arteta has seen Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira arrive for big money, whilst Marquinhos and Matt Turner have also moved to the Emirates.

Arsenal were in need of a new No. 9 after losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in recent months, whilst Vieira is highly-rated in his native Portugal. The North Londoners narrowly missed out on the top four last term and Edu is looking to invest to ensure they return to the Champions League.

Renowned YouTube channel AFTV asked: “Some signings coming, please?” Edu simply replied whilst smiling: “Working on it, yes, we’re working on it.” Arsenal invested over £100million last summer on the likes of Martin Odegaard, Benjamin White and Aaron Ramsdale.

This summer, they could yet spend a similar amount as they continue to be linked with a host of players including Leicester 's Youri Tielemans, Ajax's Lisandro Martinez and Lucas Paqueta of Lyon. Arteta recently told reporters about the chances of more business: “There are more things that we would like to do if we can. Obviously the market will dictate what we can do. So far we are happy with what we have done."

Asked specifically about Tielemans, Arteta replied: “We can improve the team still in the market and we are going to try and do it, but we are not going to go into any specific names.” The Belgian's contract at the King Power Stadium will soon expire, which may force the Foxes to cash in.

Arsenal have also welcomed back William Saliba from his loan spell in France and the centre-half could finally be given a chance to impress under Arteta. A new central midfielder appears to be on the radar with Granit Xhaka previously looking to leave the Emirates.

A full-back is also on the shortlist after the Gunners missed out on Aaron Hickey, who has joined Brentford. Kieran Tierney has been hampered by injury issues and cover is needed, especially with Arteta seemingly unsure on Nuno Taveres, who joined last year. Raphinha has been linked with a move to Arsenal previously but those rumours have eased in recent weeks, with Chelsea and Barcelona appearing to lead the race for the Leeds United winger.
