Edu 'identifies' summer transfer targets as Aubameyang comments leave ex-Arsenal star 'careless'

Welcome to our football.london The Arsenal Way daily news round-up. Maybe not the first, we've definitely done transfer round-ups before, and European round-ups, so I guess in some ways it's not that new at all.

Anyway, we thought we would enter the world of football in a broad and roundabout manner for you and have some fun with some of the stories and captions doing the daily rounds.

Arsenal in for summer trio

Edu could spend up to £180 million in the summer transfer window, according to an exclusive by The Sun.

The report claims that forward’s Alexander Isak, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and midfielder Ruben Neves are on the list of potential targets.

It's also stated that Mikel Arteta knows that if Arsenal were to land all three targets, they will need to secure a top-four position and bag Champions League football for the upcoming season.

Our view: A striker is obviously on the agenda and it’s no surprise that Isak and Calvert-Lewin are amongst the names in this trio. But, the report has a good point in that Arsenal need to persuade these players by guaranteeing that they’ll play European football next year.

Willian left with £20m wage

In an interview FourFourTwo has done with former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Willian, it was revealed that the Brazilian took away £20 million in wages.

The player returned to Corinthians where he started his career. Willian has previously spoken about his unsuccessful stint with Arsenal but in this interview said that he “wasn’t in a happy place” at the club and hence his decision to leave and “do what’s best” for him.

When speaking about his time working with Mikel Arteta, he said it was “a nice experience” and that his “ideas are great and similar to Pep Guardiola’s.”

Our view: It's always good to hear Mikel Arteta receive praise from former Arsenal players, but that's some serious money Willian was able to take away with him despite his time at the club proving to be unsuccessful.

Dixon hits back at Auba comments on Arteta

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has joined Barcelona on a permanent deal that will run until 2025, making the switch after being at Arsenal for four years. The Gabonese international had a sour end to his career at the north London club, however.

Disciplinary issues meant that the forward was stripped of his captaincy by Mikel Arteta and left out of the squad in the final month of his stay with the Gunners.

On Thursday, when the player was unveiled publicly by Barcelona, he spoke about the falling out with Arteta.

“My last few months at Arsenal were complicated. I never wanted to do anything wrong. My problem was only with Arteta. I can’t say much, I wasn’t happy.”

Former Gunner's right-back, Lee Dixon hit back at the player's comments on Arteta, which were tweeted out by football.london Arsenal reporter, Chris Wheatley.

Responding to the tweet, Dixon said: “I don’t care.”

Our view: There's not much to say about this other than - yikes. There are always two sides to the story and Aubameyang has every right to tell his side of it. Safe to say Lee wasn't a big fan of the comments though.
