Edu hints at new Emile Smith Rowe position during Arsenal's All or Nothing documentary

A scene from Arsenal's All or Nothing documentary may hint that Emile Smith Rowe is set for a new role at the club in the near future.

Smith Rowe has struggled with fitness in recent times, spending the majority of the Gunners ' pre-season on the treatment table and playing just eight minutes in the Premier League so far this term. Over the last two seasons, the Hale End academy graduate has predominantly been utilised on the left flank or as a No.10.

However, a tactics board from technical director Edu 's office suggests that the England international may actually be deployed as a right-sided central midfielder this term. Mikel Arteta's side typically have operated in a 4-3-3 system with Martin Odegaard in that role, although the Norwegian has started the season slowly by his standards, meaning there is potential for Smith Rowe to come into the starting XI if the former Real Madrid playmaker doesn't step up soon.

Speaking about the youngster back in February, Arteta highlighted his versatility, saying: "I think Smith Rowe can play in four positions. He can play as a left-winger, he can play as a left attacking midfielder, right attacking midfielder and he can play as a 9; very, very well I think."

It remains to be seen how much game time the 22-year-old will get this term but the first objective for the player will be to get fully fit, something that will have been boosted by his 45 minute cameo for the Arsenal Under-21s last night (Wednesday) during their clash against Swansea City.
