Arsenal were left short in the wide areas going into the season following the closing of the summer market. Nicolas Pepe was allowed to leave the club on loan to join OGC Nice, but a replacement was unable to be signed.
One player who the club were reportedly looking to sign in the summer transfer window was Mykhaylo Mudryk. But, due to how late in the window the Gunners seemed to register interest in him, a deal seemed too difficult to complete.
The Ukrainian winger will now have the ideal Arsenal audition as he comes against British opposition in Celtic for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday evening. This comes after the youngster had admitted about wanting to join Arsenal.

According to Ukrainian news outlet football24tv, Arsenal held talks with Mudryk’s agents and were interested in signing the player in the summer. The report went on to say that Shakhtar Donetsk are asking for €35million (£30million).
football.london understands that Edu had his sights set on signing another winger going into the final days of the transfer window. Pedro Neto was thought to be among the main targets, while Mudryk was also a name that the Gunners were tracking.
Amid such interest in Mudryk, it appears as though the youngster is very open to a move to Arsenal, who seemingly need more depth in their wide areas. Speaking to CBS Sports, he said: "I think every guy dreams about the Premier League. It's hard to say [who his preferred move is] but Arsenal is a very good team, very good coach, I like the way they play."
When asked if he would make a move to the Emirates Stadium he said: "From my side, I can't say no [to Arsenal]. But the transfer is not only my decision."
These comments came after he had already impressed in Europe’s elite competition this season. He played a pivotal role in Shakhtar Donetsk's opening 4-1 victory in the Champions League against RB Leipzig last Tuesday night.
Mudryk scored a goal and contributed to two more by providing assists for his teammates. His dominance in European’s elite competition showcased the talent he possesses and why Edu must look to wrap up a deal before more potential suitors register an interest in him.
If the winger repeats this performance against Celtic on Wednesday night, it could persuade Edu to pursue a deal in January. It is an ideal audition for Mudryk following his recent admission about wanting to make the switch to north London.
