Edu given three reasons why he must sign £31.5m star to solve Arsenal's big Thomas Partey issue

It's no secret that Arsenal will be looking to add a midfielder to their squad in the next transfer window.

The Gunners have endured plenty of problems in the centre of the park this season, with injuries, suspensions and international call-ups causing huge disruption. Their shortage in the area has been clear for all to see and technical director Edu will be doing all he can to bring in new midfielders for Mikel Arteta in the near future.

A few names have already been linked with a move to the Emirates, with one of those being Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz. Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell is a big fan of the Brazilian - who is valued at £31.5million on transfermarkt - and he thinks the Gunners should look to sign him based on three principle reasons.

One reason is that he's an ideal partner for Thomas Partey moving forward, another is that Mohamed Elneny isn't good enough to help Arsenal properly compete, whilst he thirdly thinks that there's still question marks over Granit Xhaka's consistency.

“I think he’d be a great partner for Partey," he told Football Insider. “You can see us struggling in midfield right now. [Mohamed] Elneny is not the answer. He will be gone at the end of the season.

“[Granit] Xhaka is our second best because he is experienced in there but I still have a question mark over him.Douglas Luiz is hungry, young and is a good ball player. I think he could come in and do a really good job."

Campbell continued by explaining that Arsenal need to have a stronger squad to compete next season: “We need numbers as well. It is not just a matter of signing starters. We need a squad. At the moment our squad is not up to scratch. We are weaker than other teams.”
