Edu eyes 'mega-money' Arsenal battle with Real Madrid transfer for next 'Erling Haaland'

Arsenal look set to invest in their attack once again in the summer transfer window. The Gunners added Gabriel Jesus to Mikel Arteta's squad last summer before signing Leandro Trossard from Brighton in January.

Jesus' arrival from Manchester City became an instant hit at the Emirates Stadium as the Brazilian began the season in brilliant form. However, the 25-year-old has not featured since before the World Cup after he suffered a knee injury whilst away with Brazil in Qatar, and is set to return to training in the coming weeks.

Trossard completed a £27million move to north London last month and scored his first goal for Arsenal in the controversial draw against Brentford earlier this month. Gabriel Martinelli has signed a new long-term contract to stay at the Emirates Stadium for the foreseeable future, whilst Bukayo Saka is also in talks to renew his current deal.

Despite the large investment in keeping hold of existing attackers whilst bringing in new signings, it looks as though sporting director Edu Gaspar is preparing a huge bid to add Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund to Arteta's attacking options. According to Italian outlet La Repubblica, the Gunners are considering preparing a mega-money offer for the 20-year-old this summer.

Hojlund, who has netted 13 goals and provided a further five assists across all competitions, is also said to have attracted interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid. The interest from Arsenal comes just 12 months after Hojlund joined the Serie A side, meaning the north Londoners would likely have to pay a huge fee to free him from his contract that runs until 2027.

The 20-year-old has been dubbed the 'next Erling Haaland' due to the likeness in their playing styles. In that regard, it also helps that the two strikers are above 6ft 2ins in height and hail from Nordic countries.

It remains to be seen whether Edu would get the green light from all parties at the Emirates Stadium to launch a mega-money bid for a largely unproven forward, though a title success and Champions League qualification would certainly provide the club with more funds at his disposal. Given that Folarin Balogun is thriving out on loan at Reims too, his return to north London will be factored into any decision made.
